David Ortiz IS October

David Ortiz IS October

We’re back, baby! Tonight, Rick Porcello and his 22 wins will take on Trevor Bauer and the Indians at Progressive field in Cleveland. The Indians, led by former Red Sox manager and fan-favorite Terry Francona, will look to capture their first playoff victory since 2007. Francona, who led the Red Sox to two World Series titles (including the team’s first in 86 years) was “let go” after the Red Sox epic collapse down the stretch of the 2011 season. While the bad blood between Francona and the Red Sox organization seems to have dissipated tremendously since the breakup, I think it’s safe to say that Francona would love nothing more than to stick it to Red Sox brass, particularly John Henry.

That’s where David Ortiz comes in. The man who has carried this team and this city on his back since that magical run back in 2004 will look to fire up the magic one last time in his final postseason appearance. A World Series title would strengthen David’s case as one of, if not the greatest playoff performer of all-time. Additionally, it would cement his legacy as one of the three greatest Red Sox players to ever live.

David Ortiz IS October. October rolls around and David Ortiz’s eye lasers zero in on baseballs and send them to the moon. No pitcher is too clutch. No moment is too big. It’s time to ride Big Papi to the promise land one final time. God, am I going to miss this guy.

No beisbol is safe, no beisbol is safe.

Brady is back!

October 3, 2016 at 12:51pm in Boston, Patriots, Top Story

Breaking News from our friends at BetPhoenix.

Who is the favorite to win Super Bowl 51? New England? Seattle? Who is the smart pick? Dallas or Oakland? Is there a longshot team that could upset the chalk for the Lombardi Trophy? Maybe the New York Giants are the underdog pick? Read more…

Tom Brady is officially free.  After Serving his four game suspension, Brady is set to start OctBradyober 9th against the Cleveland Browns.  The fans are excited, the players are excited, and I’m sure Tom himself is thrilled to be back on that field with his teammates.  During Brady’s absence, the Patriots posted a 3-1 record with back up quarterbacks Jimmy Garrappolo and Jacoby Brissett.  If you told me at the beginning of the season that Garrappolo would get hurt and the Patriots would still be 3-1, I wouldn’t believe you.  People were definitely a little nervous about how they would play without Brady but as a team they exceeded expectations.  Yes, it would have been great if they beat Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills yesterday and went 4-0 but unfortunately Garrappolo wasn’t healthy enough to play and Brissett looked a little banged up to.  Honestly the whole team didn’t look ready to play yesterday which is unusual to see from the Patriots.  Don’t get too happy though Rex, Brady and the Patriots will be back looking for Revenge on October 30th.

In my mind I think Garrappolo not starting yesterday is a little bit of a disappointment.  Look I’m not a doctor, nor have I had that injury before but I feel like if you want to become an elite Quarterback in the NFL you have to try and play through that injury.  There were some reports that the Patriots were trying to push him to play the Thursday night game against the Texans, which I thought was unrealistic because that was only four days after suffering that injury.  After rehabbing for two weeks though, I thought he was going to play.  He was practicing throughout the week and throwing the ball pretty well.  Playing through injuries show toughness in a Quarterback and it’s usually the elites one that do it.  For example, Brady has played with that injury, Russell Wilson played through an injury this week, and Big Ben always it’s a little knocked up but most of the time he’s out there playing.  Again, I don’t know how bad the injury was but it would’ve been good to see potentially your future Quarterback showing some toughness.  This was also his last chance to really show the league what he can do.  Now unless Brady gets injured, which would absolutely be devastating, who knows when Jimmy will get his next shot to prove to the league how good he is.

It’s only Monday, but I’m sure me and thousands of Patriots fans already can’t wait for next Sunday.  Bradys back, Ninkovich is back, and hopefully the real Gronk is back.  Good luck Cleveland, your going to need it.

World Cup of Hockey is set to begin next week. (ajournalofmusicalthings.com)

The last time the NHL hosted a World Cup tournament the year was 1996. Independence Day was the number one movie in America, Seinfeld was at the peak of it’s popularity, the Dallas Cowboys were actually good, and I was just days old. 20 years ago the USA squad, led by Brett Hull and Mike Richter, ran the table against opposing teams and beat the heavily favored Canadian team, led by the ‘Great One’ himself, in the championship series. Now two decades later, the American bunch will look to repeat the success of the ’96 team in this years World Cup of Hockey, which is being held in Toronto, and earn ultimate bragging rights in this highly anticipated preseason tournament. Draftkings (Getty Images)

Fantasy football is finally back!  In this article i’ll give you my top picks, sleepers, and stacks for week 1 of the season.  Whether you’re playing daily fantasy sports or a season long league, I hope this article helps you setting your lineups for this upcoming week.

Top Picks

WR- Marvin Jones.

I love Marvin Jones this week.  He didn’t have a very good 2015 season, however he’s in a new offense with Detroit.  Calvin Johnson is retired, and I expect The Colts to focus on stopping Golden Tate.  With cornerback Vontae Davis out for Indianapolis look for Stafford to look for Jones a lot in week 1.  This game also has the highest over/under of the week at 51.  Priced at 4,600 on draftkings Jones is a great play in week 1.

WR- Amari Cooper.

Amari Cooper is going to have a big week 1.  There are 15 wide receivers who are priced higher than him on draftkings this week, which makes him a great play.  His ownership will be high but he will reach value.  With Drew Brees playing at home expect this game to be high scoring, and for Derek Carr to look for his top target a lot on sunday.  The saints were also the worst ranked defense last season.

RB- Lamar Miller.

Lamar Miller has a very good matchup this weekend against the Chicago Bears.  Miller is a very talented running back who didn’t get enough touches in Miami.  With Deandre Hopkins putting all the pressure on the Bears defense expect Miller to have a big day catching passes and running the ball.  Miller is my top running back play this week.

RB- LeSean McCoy.

McCoy should be the focal point of the Bills offense this season.  With Karlos Williams not with The Bills anymore expect McCoy to get a lot of touches for the Bills.  His price tag on draftkings is a little high this week, however the potential is there for McCoy.

QB- Brock Osweiler.

Osweiler should get off to a good start in his Texan career with a good matchup against the Chicago Bears.  Expect a lot of passes to newest addition Lamar Miller, and a couple of jump balls to Pro Bowl wide receiver Deandre Hopkins.  Osweiler has 20 quarterbacks higher priced than him on draftkings this week.  His ownership won’t be what it should making him a great tournament play this week.

TE- Jason Witten.

Jason Witten is not the player he used to be, however with Dak Prescott starting for The Cowboys expect him to look for Witten a lot as a security blanket in week 1.  Jason Witten is only priced at 4,100 on draftkings and at that price tag, and with Witten’s upside he should be a lock in your lineup.

Sleepers

RB- James White.

With Dion Lewis out, James White assumes the role as the third down running back for New England.  With Jimmy Garoppolo starting against a great Cardinals defense look for Josh Mcdaniels to get the ball out of Garoppolo’s hands quick, and look for James White to be the beneficiary to the quick passes.

TE- Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Jameis Winston loves his tight end.  With Tampa Bay playing at Atlanta it should be a high scoring game.  Look for Winston to utilize his big tight end in the red zone which should result in a touchdown reception.

WR- Tyler Boyd.

Boyd should be the number 2 receiver in Cincinnati.  With AJ Green getting all The Jets attention, Boyd could be a good play this week, especially being priced at just 3,600.

Top 2 Stacks.

Matthew Stafford/ Marvin Jones.

As Marvin Jones is one of my top plays of the week, he is also part of my top stack of the week.  The game against The Colts should be a shootout which will pay benefits for both Stafford and Jones this week.

Eli Manning/Odell Beckham JR.

On the road in Dallas, it’s a division game.  Look for there to be a lot of points in this game and look for Manning and Odell to provide most of them.

Risky pick of the week

Ryan Fitzpatrick/Brandon Marshall.

A lot of people will stay away from these 2 given their bad matchup on paper against The Bengals.  However, if you want to win a tournament this weekend this should be a stack you really look at.  In the redzone Fitzpatrick loves throwing to Marshall.  Marshall lobbying with the Jets to get Fitzpatrick signed this offseason is a good sign for your fantasy team.  Marshall likes playing with Fitzpatrick because he gets opportunities in the red zone.  I expect Fitzpatrick to look for Marshall more than his other targets this week.

Royals Blow Out Sox, Win Series

August 29, 2016 at 1:03pm in Boston, Red Sox
John Farrell (GettyImages/BostonGlobe)

The Kansas City Royals came into Boston playing their best baseball of the season, this 3 game weekend series was a test for The Sox.  A test they would end up failing.

After the mostly successful road trip, (I say mostly because of the back to back losses to Tampa Bay), Red Sox nation was optimistic that this team has turned the corner.  They were coming home to face the hottest team in baseball in Kansas City, and The Royals proved why they should still be looked at as a threat in the American League.  Stephen Wright was terrible in his game 1 start, giving up 5 earned runs in the first inning.  Eduardo Rodriguez took a step back with his start yesterday, giving up 5 earned runs in 5 innings.  The best pitcher for The Sox over the weekend was David Price.  Price looked locked in on saturday, which is a good sign going forward.

The Bullpen once again looked over matched and really scared out there.  The Royals put the pressure on teams with their speed and ability to put the ball in play.  Matt Barnes had the worst night of his life on sunday night, he pitched 0.0 innings, and gave up 5 earned runs.  I really would’ve liked to see Papelbon on the mound.  It’s been said time and time again, this bullpen has to be much much better if this team is going to make a run in the postseason.

With a nine game west coast road trip on the horizon The Sox have to pile up as many home wins as they can. That continues tonight against Tampa Bay.  A series sweep is a must.

9 games to circle on your calendar. (forum.canucks.com)

With the long-awaited Jimmy Vesey Sweepstakes, or #VeseyWatch as it was known on Twitter, coming to an unfortunate end last week after the North Reading, MA native decided to sign in the Big Apple with the Rangers instead of his hometown team, the buzz around this upcoming Bruins season has taken somewhat of a hit. The questions surrounding this group of players, specifically on the blue line, haven’t been addressed and the moves that have been made, most notably the signing of David Backes, have been second guessed. Adding Vesey to this group would have reinvigorated a fan-base that isn’t very happy right now according to recent sports polls, and masked some of the problems that still linger for this years squad. Nevertheless, training camp opens in just about a month, so rather than sulk and pout, I looked at the B’s upcoming season and found nine games that will surely get even the most depressed Bruins fan pumped up.
